Who I am

I’m Staci Braun, M.D., a seasoned family and emergency medicine physician — and a lifelong student of how people heal.

I founded Lumen Health to offer clarity, compassion, and grounded medical insight that meets you where you are, so you can move forward with confidence in your health and trust in your own wisdom.

Foundations in Medicine

Decades ago, I completed a rigorous education in biochemistry and neuroscience, then conventional (allopathic) medical school, followed by specialized residency training in family practice with a focus on emergency medicine and intensive care.

I learned the full spectrum of what Western medicine has to offer — from delivering babies to running codes in the ICU, working in settings from rural primary care clinics to inner city ERs.

Witnessing the Gaps

In my years of practice, I also saw the limits of our “medical system.” Too often, patients were left with unanswered questions, fragmented care, and no real sense of what mattered most for their health.

So I began asking deeper questions:

What are we missing? What truly creates health?

Beyond the Hospital Walls

That search expanded into integrative and functional medicine, indigenous and holistic traditions, and years of experimentation in my own life — with everything from nutrition and detox to meditation, bodywork, and energy practices.

From the desert of Burning Man to the quiet of nursing homes, I discovered how to listen deeply to people sharing their world with me.

Today, I offer consultative telehealth services designed with time for your story — to help you see your own bigger picture and clearly define your next best steps.

You’ll find not just answers, but a partner who understands how to ask the right questions — and who sees the whole of you: your story, your symptoms, and your strengths.

Most importantly, you will experience support for your own decision-making process, leaning in to trust your body, learning how to be your own best doctor.

 Before you schedule, here are a few important things to know about how Lumen Health works —

  • Currently, consults are available only to adults (18+) physically in North Carolina at the time of visit.

  • No ongoing prescriptions or controlled substances are provided. You’ll receive clarity, perspective, and options to bring back to your care team if medication is part of your plan.

  • No. Lumen Health is a direct-pay practice. You’ll get a receipt if you’d like to submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients also use FSA/HSA funds to cover consults.

  • You’ll book securely online, meet via telehealth, and leave with personalized insight into your symptoms, your story, and your next steps — clarity you can act on right away — and receive a written action plan within 48 hours.
